The Widower

I suppose after the death of his beloved partner, Pipette has become a bit lonely. And also a bit agitated. I can only hope he is not sad or scared or anything. Because we cant keep him inside the house, i spend as much time with him as possible on the terrace.

He bit me thrice. And now he makes sure he has kicked and thrown his food all over the place. Which leads to red ants (a problem that never ever goes away. Damn ants!)

All this is making me so stressed and worried.

Rest in Peace, My baby girl.

On the 26th of April, 2014, my little hen, Micro, passed away. She just...was gone by the time i went to terrace to check on them. It's been a week now, and i have managed to deal with some of the pain and fear..u know. But it doesnt all go away. I wrote in my diary, my personal one...but i just dont feel like writing it here all over again.

I'll just miss my girl so very much. Every day. And I am worried more about Pip now...if he is sad, lonely or angry or whether he even realises what happened. This whole week was as if a storm passed by..horrible and stressful.

Micro (Gupta)
We love you so much, baby.
Rest in peace. Eat worms and grapes.

My son is a gentleman.

Today i saw the most amazing and cutest thing ever.
Its a really hot summer here in Kolkata, and it was afternoon, and Micro was gasping, as usual. I dont know why she wouldnt just go have some water. i have seen her sit in the water bowl once...

So i decided to give them a piece of watermelon each, so they both feel a bit better. Micro gobbled up her piece in like, one second. SO i was like, should i get some more for her? And then the cutest thing... Pip saw that her watermelon was over. So he said "cluck cluck" and she said "cluck cluck" and they exchanged places so she could have his piece of watermelon. He always does that! He always lets her eat the good parts, and lets her finish and then he eats.

Men should be like him. Gentlemen. Chivalrous.

I'm a good mommy.

I think I'll be a good mother...when I do become a mother to human babies. But you know, like how people get pets first when they aren't really sure if they can be good parents, so they try it out with animals first...its something of that sort. Although when you come to think of it, human babies and animal babies, even though very much alike, are quite different too.

Like Micro and Pip for example. I took care of them and still do, like a mother would. Fed them baby food from my fingers when they first came home. Kept them warm. Bathed them (disaster). And even today, i feed them, change their water, clean up their house and whatnot. I so desperately need a holiday right now, but i cant even leave them for a day to go somewhere.  But on the contrary, i never have to worry about disciplining them, their school, homeworks and all that.

So you see, a pet is like a baby. But a baby is not like a pet.

But unlike human babies, these two chickens of mine are super duper happy when they see me. Everyday. Everytime. They jump up and down and go all chuck-cluck-puck.  Now how many humans do that, huh?

Oooh! Ahhh! GRAPES!!

Not only do they love chillies, they are also quite mad about grapes. They love grapes. If you mix grapes with their daily food, they will pick out the grapes, and just gobble them up. And there is no limit to their grape intake...so ultimately their poop is black in colour (violet-black, due to black grapes).

If daily food got no grapes, then Mike and Pip will just turn their face and walk away.

Cluck. Cluck.
XOXO

P.S- The pic above is not of my chickens', but some other's, but its eating a grape too.

chuck chuck puck!!

My babies have so much to say! The sad part is...I dont understand their language. But they understand what I am trying to tell them. I tell them to go inside, they go inside. I tell them to be quiet, they do so. They see me and they jump up and down and have a lot to say. I don't get them.

Seems like humans are stupider at some things.
Only, we are stronger than them.
That's all.

Chilly Chickens

Micro and Pipette really, really LOVE having chilies. Especially Micro.
Its a good thing. I am a proud mommy, because chili for chickens keeps away infections, cold, and apparently chilies have some kind of chemical that keeps them strong and immune to germs.

So everyday I mix 3-4 chilies in their food and Micro will first them out (she is quite choosy. likes sweet fruits and well, chili), gobble them up, and then eat the rest of her food. If she likes it. If she doesnt, she will just give me this disappointed look and maybe eat a little bit.
Pip, on the other hand, will pick up the food 10 times, drop it 10 times, make a "chuck-chucking" noice ( which means he is calling his partner to come eat) and then he too will gobble up the food. Or sometimes he just scatters everything with his feet.

And like Pavlov's dog, they are  classically conditioned to have lunch at 3 pm, i think. Because, the moment its about to be 3, Pip will scream his lungs out.

Oh those babies.
